Dom Pipkin :
Solo and Smokin’ Boogie Show

Playing the piano since childhood then studying jazz at the Royal Academy of Music , Dom Pipkin started working professionally in his early twenties, pursuing his first love – jazz and blues music.

His playing credits include  London’s Errol Linton, Alan Glen, Pauline Black, Marty Wilde, Julian Arguelles, Tim Garland, Trudi Kerr, Geno Washington, Lillian Boutte, Guy Barker, Pee Wee Ellis, Paul Jones, Eric Bibb and Todd Sharpville.

He joined trip-hop and chillout favourites Morcheeba in the late 1990s, then worked in the drum and bass scene with artists such as Shy FX.  The following two decades saw him playing sessions with among others, Paul Weller,  Ray Davis from the Kinks, Cornershop, David Byrne, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Laura Mvula, Ella Eyre and Paloma Faith.

In addition, Pipkin has always played solo at London’s top clubs and bars.  He was asked to play for the late Stanley Kubrik, and even picked up television and radio presenter Jonathan Ross as a piano student.

This musical life’s journey naturally culminated in the creation of his solo show “Smokin’ Boogie – tales of the Big Easy, bourbon, and bad boys” – New Orleans piano from its very beginnings in the brothels of the early jazz age, through the joyous RnB boom of the 50s marked by artists such as Fats Domino and Professor Longhair, into the heady drug-fuelled excesses and funk of James Booker and the “Nite Tripper” Dr John.

A mixture of stories, humour, and unfiltered raw blues piano, the show has been an instant success, with hugely enthusiastic and glowing audience responses.  Pipkin is an engaging and true performer, with no compromise in his playing, passing on the true folk history of the heart of blues and jazz piano and its colourful practicioners and keeping alive the traditions they themselves learned from and passed on in an entertaining and eye-opening style
