Elgar 'The Apostles'
St Endellion Festival Chorus and Orchestra.
Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth.
Soloists Sophie Bevan, Kitty Whately, Robert Murray, Benjamin Bevan, Neal Davies, Timothy Dickinson.
Elgar’s The Apostles has been described as the greatest English choral work since The Messiah.
It is a profound and beautiful meditation on the ordinariness and fallibility of those who followed Christ and reflects Elgar’s own difficult struggles with faith.
First performed 3 years after The Dream of Gerontius, this is music of genius written by a composer at the height of his powers.
This performance comes direct from the St Endellion Summer Music Festival with a stellar cast conducted by Ryan Wigglesworth.
Other performances at the Festival include Benjamin Britten’s final opera Death in Venice as well as Part 1 of Mendelssohn’s St Paul and Sibelius’s 2nd Symphony. Please see the St Endellion Festivals website for full details.
