Blindsight
Erik Weihenmayer became the first blind mountaineer to conquer Everest in 2001. Inspired by this feat, Sabriye Tenberken, blind herself, who runs a special school for blind Tibetan children, invites him to talk to the children.
Together they develop an audacious and perhaps foolhardy plan to lead a group of blind teenagers up Lhakpa Ri, the summit next to Everest.
They conceive of the trek as a means to show the children, and their society, that blind people are worthy of respect, and can achieve great things.
Set in the awe-inspiring scenery of the Tibetan Himalayas, this life-affirming documentary shows how the human spirit can triumph over incredible challenges.
Winner of Audience Award at the Berlin Film Festival 2007.
