This classic tale of doomed love has all the required elements - spectacular cinematography,
sumptuous sets, exquisite costumes, lavish song and dance numbers.
Devdas and Paro are childhood sweethearts, but when Devdas returns from boarding school, his parents insist that Paro is beneath him and force him to choose between family and love.
The choice of loyalty to his family drives Devdas into a spiral of self-destruction, as he is unable to
conquer his desire for Paro.
Passionate and tender, this tragic tale, which won 44 awards at the Indian Film Academy 2003, displays Bollywood’s vibrant culture at its very best.
