Freddy Kempf - Piano - Beethoven, Chopin & Rachmaninov

Freddy Kempf - Piano

Date: Saturday 22nd September 2018
Time: 19:30

Freddy Kempf - Piano

Freddy Kempf is one of today’s most successful pianists who has built a unique reputation as an explosive performer as well as a sensitive and profoundly musical artist.

Performing to sell-out audiences all over the world, he was born in London and made his concerto debut with the RPO at the age of 8. He came to national prominence in 1992 winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition and in 1998 his award of third, not first, prize in the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow provoked outcry from both audience and the Russian press, which proclaimed him “the hero of the competition”.

This evening's programme includes:

BeethovenSonata no.14 in C# minor ‘Moonlight’

ChopinScherzo, Nocturne, Polonaise Fantasie

Rachmaninov – Etudes

A committed recitalist, Freddy has appeared on many of the world’s important stages including the Berlin Konzerthaus, Milan’s Sala Verdi, Royal Festival Hall, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall.

He has performed concertos under an array of distinguished conductors and with the world’s most prestigious orchestras including the Philharmonia, CBSO, Gothenburg Symphony, San Francisco Symphony and the Dresden Philharmonic.

A recent highlight was a 12-concert tour with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra all across the UK. The Arts Desk wrote: Kempf is a pianist in a million… the incredible definition of Rachmaninov's inner filigree emerges all the clearer for a refusal to use the sustaining pedal to blur the sound… his colossal but perfect weight simply stuns.

Freddy records exclusively for BIS Records. A recent Tchaikovsky CD and a Schumann recital disc were received to great critical acclaim as was his recording of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra/Andrew Litton.
