Date: Thursday 27th April 2017
Piano Songwriters Night - Fruit Tree dusts off the fabulous Acorn grand piano to celebrate a wealth of new piano compositions, including collaboration between world class jazz musicians Danu Fox and Marc Hadley, Lucy Birbeck and an exciting harvest of young talent.
After a career as a jazz performer Danu has spent recent years using her voice to connect to the land and to others, moving away from song as we know it, and leaving words behind to step into the landscape and sing the essence of west Cornwall’s moors, stones and sea.
Returning now to her roots as a songstress and pianist Danu’s voice is enthralling, with her years of experience making her a compelling and commanding performer to see back on the stage
Jazz saxophonist and arranger/player with Penzance’s Latin groovers Kabasa, Marc has also gathered critical acclaim in the UK and abroad for his song productions featuring Caravan/Camel singer Richard Sinclair and "Canterbury Scene" guitarist Phil Miller.
The song world of Lucy Birbeck evokes a Penwith we can all relate to with wide skies and vibrant colours. Sensual, deeply affecting, funny, and totally unique, Lucy is a rebel with a cause to entertain and delight us, and it is a great pleasure to welcome her back to Fruit Tree with new material.
Eleanor has performed at Fruit Tree with May Robson in Miss Jones, providing the soaring higher voice in the dynamic duo. Her own songs for piano are harmony rich and full of ideas. Fruit Tree piano night will be Eleanor’s first solo outing, marking the beginning of a new musical chapter.
Jowan Jacobs, Bridie Simons, Flo Adams and Theo Black.
Young quartet who enjoy experimenting with genres but retain a predominantly jazzy feel with inspiration from funk and blues. With jazz piano from Jowan, strong lead vocals from Bridie, sax and lyrics from Flo and accomplished guitarist Theo, this is a crew to watch out for.
