Date: Saturday 6th May 2017
'A Ceremony Of Psalms' (First Performance)
Other works For Brass & Percussion
Organist : Anthony Trodd
Conductor : Paul Drayton
Paul Drayton is a pianist, teacher, composer, conductor, writer and lecturer. He gained a musical history degree at Oxford followed by a Bachelor of Music in composition. He subsequently became Director of Music at New College Choir School in Oxford.
A long relationship with The King’s Singers ( whose DVD ‘From Byrd to The Beatles’ features his ‘Masterpiece’ ) led to a commission in 2012 for a new work to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.
Paul’s composing has centred to a large extent around vocal and choral music. ‘The Mermaid of Zennor’, a children’s opera, was presented in various Cornish venues in 2014, while his most recent major work,’The Passion of Christ as Told by Mark the Evangelist’ was performed in 2015 in Truro Cathedral.
The St Austell Choral Society is a well established, flourishing choir which was formed in 1910 and as enthusiastic members, we feel extremely fortunate to have such a talented musical director as Paul.
We are therefore very anxious that the forthcoming first performance of his new composition ‘A Ceremony of Psalms’, for choir and brass, will be well supported.

St Austell Choral Society
Regular concerts throughout the year in St Austell at St John's Methodist Church or in Bodmin at St Petroc's Parish Church
We currently have almost sixty singers, and we usually present two main concerts per year, with additional ones, especially at Christmas. We are fortunate in having two musical directors, giving singers the benefit of their different approaches.
We are always pleased to welcome new members. Auditions are not necessary. Please come and join us at rehearsals on Fridays at 7.30 pm at Mount Charles Methodist Church.
