How To Be Abstract

A two day course to explore approaches to abstract art, and find your own abstract style - finishing with a painting on canvas. 

During the course we will be looking at different types and approaches to abstraction including expressionism, geometric, organic, using the senses and reductionist techniques.

Get to explore these approaches with a variety exercises and drawing media and collage. 

Combining this with looking at other artists work, group discussions and gallery visits.

Find your own preferred methods and style to create your own painting.

The course fee includes all materials, a Tate visit and a pasty lunch on day two.

Day 1
Discussion and history of Abstract Art, and the role of St Ives artists.
Exercises following different paths to abstraction: from senses, expressionism, reduction and organic.
Visit to Tate St. Ives and the Patrick Heron Exhibition.
Collage and mixed media studies.

Day 2
Planning on final work, collecting source material.
Pasty lunch
Guest talk
