Ian McMillan + Luke Carver Goss : Between You and Me
Poet, broadcaster & comedian Ian McMillan and Olympic composer Luke Carver Goss present a hilarious night of words, music & breath-taking comedy, featuring songs, stories and a musical created out of thin air!
Bard of Barnsley Ian McMillan hosts weekly hit radio show The Verb.
He’s Poet-in-Residence for Barnsley FC, The Academy of Urbanism and, until recently, English National Opera.
He’s a regular on BBC Breakfast, Pointless Celebrities, Coast, Countryfile, Pick of the Week, Last Word and The Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes (C4).
He was featured on The South Bank Show and cast away on Desert Island Discs.
His rip-roaring poetry shows are legendary.
Cats make him sneeze.
Luke Carver Goss has recorded & performed with his own group, the acclaimed Carver Trio, as well as The Ian McMillan Orchestra, the Balkan singer Tea Hodzic, jazz singer Tina May and story-teller Daniel Morden in the group The Devil’s Violin.
Recent works with Ian include Snappy Opera The Magical Music Tree for Mahogany Opera Group, Looking for a Stable for Scunthorpe Rotary and local choirs, Tiger Tales for Holmfirth Arts Festival, a new carol A Single Snowflake Falls for Chester Music Society and soon a new piece for Chapel-en-le-Frith Male Voice Choir’s Centenary.
‘Luke Carver Goss is a composer who creates big worlds of sound… British music at its most ingenious’ John L Walters, The Guardian.
His Last Train to Elvet for Durham Brass Festival & Tredegar Town Band – ‘a journey rich in emotional range pulled off with the most delicate and intricately woven touch’ Colin Robson, Durham County Arts Officer, – follows Pure Gold: a 4x4 relay for the Cultural Olympiad, Homing In for The Sage Gateshead and compositions for Black Dyke Brass Band, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
‘From the moment Ian bounds on to the stage and introduces the person who will then introduce him and Luke, it is a non-stop high energy flow of humour, music and poetry. Luke’s songs and musicianship are tender, sometimes witty and often accompanied by Ian’s poems as a low key Barnsley rap. Everyone went home happy.’ Ashbourne Arts Festival.
‘I’ve never met a performer who was so at ease with his audience’ Square Chapel, Halifax.
‘We have definitely kept the tickets to prove we were there’ Square Chapel, Halifax.
‘You can come again’ Lockington Village Hall.
