'John Peel’s Shed' & 'Circled in The Radio Times'
Writer, theatre maker and BBC Radio 4 regular, John Osborne, has enjoyed sell-out runs and five star ratings for his show John Peel's Shed; a storytelling show about radio, music and a box of records that once belonged to the BBC Radio 1 DJ.
In 2002, John Osborne won a competition on John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 show. His prize was a box of records that took eight years to listen to. This is an ode to radio, those records and anyone who’s ever sought solace in the wireless. The show features a selection of records previously owned by the late John Peel. Many are rare recordings by obscure and now defunct bands, so this is a unique opportunity for any Peel fans.
The show is also inspired by John Osborne’s acclaimed debut Radio Head: Up And Down The Dial Of British Radio – a BBC Radio 4 Book Of The Week – which tells the story of what happened when John listened to a different radio station every day. His journey took him from data entry at Anglia Windows, via interviewing radio greats such as Nicholas Parsons, Tommy Boyd, Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliffe; to presenting his own local radio show.
John’s new tour is a double-bill with the charming and witty Circled in the Radio Times, a celebration of the golden years of television which he shared with his beloved grandparents.
