Kneehigh's : 'The Nature of Why' : The British Paraorchestra
The Nature of Why, commissioned by Unlimited, merges dance and live music into an epic performance that brims with emotion and physical beauty.
The show features a cinematic live-score form Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory, an ensemble of musicians from The British Paraorchestra and four extraordinary dancers.
The show takes inspiration from the unconventional curiosity of Nobel Prize-winning theoretical physicist Richard Feynman, and his search for meaning in the world around us;
“When you are asking ‘Why?’, you have to be in some framework that allows something to be true.” – Richard Feynman.
Dancers and musicians move as one, erasing the divides between musician and dancer, performance and audience; resulting in an up-close-and-personal theatrical experience like no other.
“Immersive, deeply affecting and incredibly uplifting; this cinematic and emotive orchestra-dance clash is quite unlike anything you will have ever seen before.”
Commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of disabled artists, with funding from Arts Council England.

This year, more than ever, we wanted the shows to celebrate togetherness, inclusivity and strength in numbers – and we’re proud to say that every show on offer stands in defiance to these mad, mixed-up times we’re currently living in.
