'Ladies In Lavender'
Ladies in Lavender is probably better known from the 2004 film that starred Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. This stage play is adapted by Shaun McKenna from the screenplay by Charles Dance, who based his film on a short story by William J. Locke.
It tells the story of two spinster sisters, Ursula and Janet, living in 1936 in a small Cornish village whose life of cocoa before bed and the village jumble sale is transformed when they decide to house an unconscious stranger washed up on the beach near to their home.
The ladies revive him, nurse him and eventually restore him to good health – and their little village lives are transformed. However, they discover that the young man is Polish and a virtuoso violinist, and it starts to become clear that his future does not lie in Cornwall … what will this mean for Ursula and Janet?
The story is moving and heartfelt, with many moments of comedy and perfect for a summer’s evening.

St. Agnes Garden Theatre Players started out in 1955, performing in the garden of a local hotel. When that link was broken we dropped the ‘Garden’ from our title. More recently we have been performing at the Driftwood Spars hotel in St Agnes as well as occasionally at the local Miners and Mechanics’ Institute.
Over the years, St Agnes Theatre Players have earned a reputation as a friendly drama group presenting high quality productions while not being afraid to take on challenging pieces. Alongside our good reputation across Cornwall we have a loyal following within our own community.
We also have regular play readings and occasional event evenings, and from time to time we set up trips to professional theatre performances. We are fortunate in owning our own premises that we can use for early rehearsals, meetings and storage.
The Driftwood Spars has parking available which is free to patrons.
Please note you must register your car with the hotel on arrival to not incur a parking fine. Disabled access available.
Pre-Show Theatre suppers available at the Driftwood from 5.00 pm. Supper Booking essential on 01872 552428
