Patrick Hamilton's Gaslight

Patrick Hamilton's famous thriller is set in the world of the supposedly respectable Victorians.

Jack Manningham dominates Bella, his young and submissive wife.  Each evening, while he is out and about town, Bella is left at home, where the ghostly footsteps overhead, the mysterious flickering of the living room gaslights and the familiar objects that keep disappearing are driving her out of her mind.

But a retired detective comes to her rescue, helping to restore her self-belief and raising questions about her husband.

St Austell Players

Founded in 1945, the St. Austell Players are based at St Austell Community Centre,Truro Road, St Austell. Previously known as 'The Arts Centre', this has been the venue for over 1,500 performances of nearly 300 Players' productions. There are usually four play productions each year, in March, May/June, August and November.

January 2005 saw the re-introduction of the annual Pantomime. The last few years have also seen the introduction of an annual musical in October. A single four-night run - Wed. to Sat. - is usual. The August play runs for 10 nights over 2 weeks, Tues to Sat.. The Summer Plays are chosen with the idea of attracting as many holiday visitors as possible, in addition to our loyal local audience.
