St Austell Amateur Operatic Society present  South Pacific

 

Some “Enchanted Evening” during the week 16th April – 21st April you may meet many strangers across a crowded Keay Theatre at St Austell’s Amateur Operatic Society’s production of “South Pacific” – another Rodgers and Hammerstein showstopper!

 

Directed by Nick Lawrence with MD Anna Minear and Choreographer Maureen Pascoe,  this musical is known for its haunting melodies: “Some Enchanted Evening” and “This Nearly Was Mine”.   It also contains many other well known songs such as “Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair”, “Bali Ha’i” and “There is Nothing Like A Dame”.

 

“South Pacific “ is arguably the best of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s wonderful musicals.  It was quite controversial in its day, tackling the subjects of racial prejudice, child abuse, mixed marriages, World War II, dangerous missions, malaria and of course a large helping of humour and love.
