The Odd Folk
The Odd Folk are a collection of multi-intrumentalists, led by Morgan Val Baker, who plays just about everything including all the percussion with his feet. Sam Brookes provides up to 6 different types of guitar and always with a certain charm, while Shelley Macphail adds pianos and organs, hyperchondria and harmonies.
Guests continue to drop in and out and can change the sound in a second. Despite undergoing a name-change (Nee The Sam Brookes Quartet) and uprooting from their native Cornwall, the boys have taken this in their stride.
A passionately ramshackle quintet, playing their own brand of “triumphant folk” while journeying up and down the country in a vintage Renault 4!
Recently seen supporting young troubadour Johnny Flynn and folk legend Steve Tilston, and equally at home on the main stage of the corner of an old barn, the boys treat each ‘giggle’ with the same gusto and aim to make people smile and bounce!
“…The best folk band you’ve never heard of!” The Guardian
“Nick Drake Meets a gypsy rave!” Todd Kahl – Folkreal.
