Viv Robertson is a veteran performer with who has been entertaining audiences around Cornwall and beyond for many years.
Music has always played a large part in his (somewhat chequered*) career. His first live performance was singing Lonnie Donegan covers a whilst strumming an old banjulele at a scout show in North London. There was a brief period playing drums in a rhythm and blues band in the 60s followed by an introduction to folk music at the Count House, Botallack – scene of his first paid solo gig for the sumptuous fee of £2.00.
He co- founded the first ever Folk Club in Falmouth and subsequently founded and ran Finnegan’s Folk Club near Hungerford.
He has played in pubs, restaurants, folk clubs and festivals in Cornwall and other venues around the UK; residencies in Bermuda, Gibraltar, Spain, The Balearics and Tenerife; appearances at Douarnenez Maritime Festival, Falmouth Oyster Festival, Falmouth and Truro blues festivals. Falmouth Folk and Cider Fayre, Falmouth International Shanty Festival, Holifair, various beer festivals and regular performances and compereing at Porthleven Food and Music Festival.
He has been frontman for Din of Inequity, Donkey Work, Earth Connection, The Vee Band and (currently) Bluestalk Revival.
Now based near Frogpool, he regularly hosts acoustic sessions and plays a lot of solo gigs around the county including annual tributes to Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Burns Night and St Patrick’s Day.
Accompanying himself on 6 and 12 string guitars and harmonicas, he has put together a programme of some of his favourite traditional folk, blues, country and rock songs including one or two of his own.
*All this dovetailed between his other work interests:- Art teacher, potter, yacht skipper, fish salesman, courier, removal operative, painter and decorator to name but a few! Currently restoring a 4 berth yacht acquired for the princely sum of fifty quid!
