AB36 Susan Soyinka : The Artist As Refugee -

Date: Saturday 7th July 2018
Time: 15:30

Susan Soyinka : The Artist As Refugee

Born in Vienna, Albert Ruess fled to England in 1938 to escape Nazi persecution, losing family, possessions and his reputation as an artist.

His style changed dramatically, reflecting the trauma he had suffered – the Newlyn Art Gallery holds much of his work.

In researching his life for her book, Albert Reuss in Mousehole: The Artist as Refugee, Susan Soyinka interviewed many local people who knew him and his struggle to develop his art against the background of world historic events.
