Nicholas Reed : Travels of Agent ZigZag -

Date: Wednesday 25th July 2012
Time: 14:00

Nicholas Reed, well-known author and art historian, whose father Major Ronnie Reed worked for MI5 during World War II, talks about the journeyings of a spectacular double agent for whom his father was the Case Officer.

Agent Zigzag (aka Eddie Chapman, and holder of the Iron Cross, presented to him by Hitler) got his codename because he was constantly zigzagging from one country to another.

Starting as a petty criminal in England, imprisoned in Jersey, taken to Germany, trained by the Germans in occupied France, dropped into England, returned via Liverpool to Lisbon (where Ronnie Reed flew to see him), then on to Germany, retrained in France, sent back to England, then up to Scandinavia …

But that’s just the places: it’s what he was doing there which is the intriguing part!
