Members of the very active Penwith Local History Group will be presenting seven topics, all on the
theme of journeys. They include:

17th century: Zennor parish officers ride to Helston for the Protestation Returns

18th century: Celia Fiennes’s journey in Cornwall by sidesaddle

18th century: A Cornish girl’s letter, writing home from a holiday in London

18th century: A Skimmington Ride through Penzance - punishment for an uppity wife and a bullied
husband

19th century: A coach journey to Helston, and a case ending in the Court of Chancery in London

20th century: A prominent Nazi visiting Cornwall just before WW2 and falling for a local girl

20th century: Belgian refugee fishing families arriving in Newlyn during WW2.

Each topic will be presented in its context, with slides, and there will be an opportunity for comments and questions on each one. Tea and coffee will be served and there will also be some time to look at the Group's display board and books, and talk to members.

The Group's website is www.penwithlocalhistorygroup.co.uk .
