Martyn Oates was born and brought up in West Cornwall before reading History at St John’s College, Oxford.
He has worked in political journalism for nearly 20 years and has been the BBC’s Political Editor in the South West for the last ten.
Dividing his professional life between Westminster and the South West
he has witnessed the many of the dramatic political events of the last decade at first hand.
The Tamar Valley has been his home for the past two decades and he currently lives in Saltash with his wife and children and three overindulged cats.
In his limited spare time he directs a small Early Music Choir and enjoys cooking, fishing, gardening and Cornish churches.
