'The Lost Garden's Summer Ball'
Two worlds exist in one space
And there are many ways in between
Through the backs of cupboards
Down rabbit holes
And of course
Through forgotten doorways
In lost gardens…
And you my dear friends are invited!
In the enchanting tales
Of a wild and wonderful world
In a breath-taking garden
Step into a wild and exciting story-world this summer, created by multi-award winning Rogue Theatre at the enchanted heart of The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
When the Lost Gardens stirred from a lifelong sleep, the flowers woke first, and then the animals, and then the trees, and then the birds, and then, quite unexpectedly; another world woke as well!
Let your imagination run wild in the Lost Gardens and find yourself in the Land of Fae!
Best known for their immersive theatre adventures in Tehidy Woods, Rogue Theatre weaves magic at Heligan this summer, like a witch in the wood, or a mermaid of mud, like a strange and beautiful gift from the sea, or a biker princess on the road to destiny, like a selfie with the devil, or a chorus of angels dancing in blossom; The Lost Gardens Summer Ball is an exuberant, bewitching, and fun exploration into a world whose magic was lost in time, but not entirely forgotten!
The Lost Gardens Summer Ball is an immersive theatre adventure that weaves along the beautiful paths of Heligan and into the story world of The Land of Fae . And there, The Woodland King and The Moon await to share thrilling and fantastical tales that will come to life upon the stage. And at the end, we can dance together ( if you want to, you are invited ) it is a Ball after all!
The Lost Gardens Summer Ball presents a collection of Rogue’s favourite past tales and a brand new one written from the heart of Heligan too;
When the garden was stirring from sleep,
The trees whispered tales of love from the sea,
And one night in the pale of the moon,
A gardener, wandering alone,
Was drawn to the flower garden by a spellbinding song.
When he arrived he saw, with eyes full of stars from the sky,
A mermaid bathing in the dipping pond,
But in a splash and a flash of a shimmering tail,
The watery beauty was gone.
The next day, the gardener woke early
And found himself in the round pool
At first light in the morning mist
Seeking the beautiful maid, he had seen,
Or the route through which she had vanished,
But instead he found beneath the silt,
Seven golden wedding rings,
And this is where our tale of love
And mermaids and mud begins!
For families, adults and children of all ages who hear the call of the wild!
There will be enchanting live music, thrilling stories, otherworldly performance, explosive acrobatics, fire, wildly beautiful dance, free face painting and of course magic in the air.
Forest creature costumes, faerie Dress, otherworld outfits, party frocks, wild life masks, funny hats, forest finery, frippery, feathers and fancy hairdos are encouraged though not essential. ( Grown-ups as well as children )
All are welcome, from near or far!
A delicious feast will be available in Heligan’s new outdoor eatery from 5.00pm, all of it delectable street food, the perfect start to a spectacular night.
Specially created Heligan cocktails, cold beer and other cool refreshments are also available to make sure you won't go thirsty on your adventure through The Lost Gardens.
Toilets are situated near the performance area.
For your Lost Gardens adventure we recommend you bring shoes for adventure (wellies if it has been raining) and a torch.
There will be hay bales to sit on, though feel free to bring cushions (if you don’t mind carrying them).
The event lasts about 2½ hours and takes place in the gardens so come prepared whatever the weather. ( We will use our fabulous canopy to cover our audience if it should rain ) !
The path twists and turns and is bumpy under foot but should be fine for a rugged buggy!
