Roger’s Beer Tasting
Roger Ryman, Head Brewer at St Austell Brewery since 1999, holds the IBD Master Brewer qualification and is an elected a Fellow of the Institute.
He will speak of some of the secrets of brewing a good beer and we will be ‘enjoying’ it.
Roger joined St Austell Brewery in 1999 as Head Brewer, being made Brewing Director in 2006.
During his time here he has redeveloped the brewery’s portfolio of brands and overseen significant expansion and modernisation of the brewery. The Company’s flagship brand, Tribute Cornish Pale Ale, is now in the top five best-selling premium cask ales in the UK.
Roger had formerly been employed at Maclay & Co and Pure Malt Products in Scotland and Scottish & Newcastle Breweries in the North East of England.
He has a Master’s degree in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot Watt and an Honours degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Roger was chosen as Brewer of the Year by the British Guild of Beer Writers in 2006 and the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group in 2009.
Roger holds the IBD Master Brewer qualification, and was elected a Fellow of the Institute in 2014.
Following the acquisition of Bath Ales by St Austell Brewery in 2016, in addition to his role at St Austell, Roger also oversees production at Bath Ales. In May 2018 a state-of-the-art new brewery will open, and will put Bath Ales on the map as having some of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced brewing and packaging facilities in the south west.
