Piety, Parishes and People
Come and learn about Celtic saints and early Christianity in Cornwall, the impact of the Normans, medieval church building (which in Cornwall went on well into the Reformation period), Post-Reformation changes, the long 18th century and the influence of the Victorians on church fabric, worship, life and landscape.
Although the church buildings of St Just in Roseland, Gerrans and St Anthony in Roseland will be our starting point, a variety of sources will be referred to from an early tenth-century parchment sheet recycled as a book cover in the Vatican library to early nineteenth century Rural Deans reports.
Journey through time, visiting three Roseland churches, to discover their architecture, parishes and people with Joanna Mattingly (church historian) and Christine Edwards (former county archivist) from Cornwall Historic Churches' Trust.
