London singer songwriter, Hannah White, has a voice that Acoustic Magazine described as “arresting” and “wholly believable”, that God Is In The TV called “breathtaking” and that Fatea Magazine claimed is of “heartbreaking honesty” and “emotional force”.
Performing a collection of songs which are both deeply political and deeply personal, Hannah’s feature at The Acorn, Penzance, marks the launch of her album ‘Whose Side Are You On?’ which was produced by multi-instrumentalist, Nigel Stonier (Thea Gilmore, Joan Baez, The Waterboys, Martha Wainwright).
The record came together following a traumatic incident in which Hannah was accused by officials of trafficking drugs based solely on her status as a young, single mother of two children from two different men.
Compelled to tell her story with all people, Hannah has been performing her songs in the most classless institution she could think of; Fish & Chip shops, in a series of guerrilla gigs, which she has been calling ‘Fish & Chips & Feminism’.
With the gigs attracting more attention than she could have anticipated, Hannah was invited on to BBC Radio London, where popular TV icon and radio DJ, Gaby Roslin, broke down in tears on hearing her perform.
On BBC Radio Kent, DJ Dominic King, commented how “wonderful it is to hear social commentary in song” and X-factor winner, Ben Haenow, said she is “just incredible”.
This show is an opportunity to hear Hannah and her band perform her album live and to share her story in this beautiful theatre.

The new Acorn Fund.
The Acorn has striven for many years to provide a venue for affordable theatre and events for the local communities in and around Penzance.
Our events are staffed and run by volunteers and we are currently putting on the maximum number of shows that we can with the resources that we have.
Alas, in these times of austerity, all this is not enough.
Therefore, reluctantly, the trustees have decided to introduce a small increase to our ticket prices, in order to form an Acorn Fund to help us maintain this lovely old building and help ensure that it remains a lively cultural hub to serve our community in the future.
