Cornish Celtic Musicians Masterclasses

An exciting opportunity to learn from some of the finest Cornish Celtic musicians – Sign up for an individual Masterclass to further your music skills, leading to the opportunity of joining Skillywidden for a one-off spectacular moment during the evening performance!
Neil Davey, Hilary Coleman, Jen Dyer and Colin Seddon will be tutoring in 30min sessions during the day, and invite you to come and learn.
No previous Cornish music experience needed, or an ability to read musical notation.
These sessions will be tailored to your individual skill level, and designed to give you an opportunity to learn some brilliant Cornish tunes and techniques specific to playing Celtic music.
Later, participants will join Skillywidden on stage as part of the evening performance for an extravaganza of music moment!
This is a rare opportunity to get some focused time with members of the band before joining them on stage – there are limited slots available so don’t miss out!
Hilary Coleman & Neil Davey will be available for 30-minute slots, starting from 10.00am to 12.30pm You will need to book as soon as possible so that they can contact you before your Masterclass
Hilary Coleman is a musician, teacher and researcher in Cornish music. Hilary co-founded several bands including Dalla and Skillywidden, which have toured extensively and recorded several albums. Currently the music director of the choir, Red River Singers, Hilary is in great demand as a choir leader for projects in Cornwall. Hilary’s work has been recognised through numerous awards for her published books.
Neil Davey and his brothers kick-started the revival in Cornish traditional music in the 1970s, and he went on to play with countless others in the Celtic scene including internationally acclaimed Dalla and mostly recently Davey&Dyer. Neil has toured world-wide, championing Celtic music. A prolific composer, performer and educator, he has been a guest lecturer and led workshops for numerous events.
Jen Dyer & Colin Seddon will be available for 30-minute slots, starting from 1.30pm to 4.00pm. You will need to book as soon as possible so that they can contact you before your Masterclass
Jen Dyer is rooted in traditional Cornish music. As a performer she is a prominent member of internationally acclaimed Cornish bands Dalla and Davey&Dyer. Jen often guests with other bands, and is also in demand as a studio session musician. Recent work includes Jim Carey and The Saboteurs: Riots and Lobsters. As a teacher she holds extensive experience in schools and workshops.
Colin Seddon, professional musician since 1985, has specialised not only in Brazilian and Cuban percussion, bass guitar, double bass, drum kit and vocals, but also in traditional music too. He has performed, recorded and toured extensively, and been involved in prestigious community arts and education projects. Colin has recently written a new BA programme focusing on music performance, creation and promotion
