The Native Guide : Gavin Nicol
'Environmental and Heritage Walk'
Join local environmental teacher, Gavin Nicol, to discover a treasure-trove of viewpoints, natural history, culture and heritage off the St.Ives tourist trail.
Our three to four hour walks start with a vehicle journey to an iconic viewpoint overlooking St.Ives, followed by a gentle walk down through rich countryside to the coast path and back into town.
Today's walk starts on the shoulder of Rosewall Hill, we start this outing with a gentle walk to the summit, looking at mine stacks and wildlife as we go.
An ancient and rugged granite tor, Rosewall’s summit is a captivatingly wild location with stunning views. From here we will walk down to the coast road and across the fields to join one of the finest stretches of the Cornish coast path.
In the final leg of our journey we take in the headlands and zawns, wildflowers and coastal birds (perhaps spotting seals and even dolphins) as we head towards St.Ives, finally reaching Porthmeor beach.
