The Native Guide : Gavin Nicol
'Environmental and Heritage Walk'
Join local environmental teacher, Gavin Nicol, to discover a treasure-trove of viewpoints, natural history, culture and heritage off the St.Ives tourist trail.
Our three to four hour walks start with a vehicle journey to an iconic viewpoint overlooking St.Ives, followed by a gentle walk down through rich countryside to the coast path and back into town.
Today's walk starts at Knills Steeple, an iconic historically important monument overlooking a huge area between the North and South Penwith Coasts.
We explore the Steeple Woodland Nature Reserve, looking at the wildlife, habitats and historical features around this ancient site, actively managed by a local community group (Gavin is the current chairman).
From here we will walk down into Carbis Bay and join the coast path to enjoy the coastal plants, wildlife and stunning views at Porthminster Point.
The last leg of our walk will follow the footpath into St.Ives, arriving at Porthminster beach.
