Geoff Lakeman

Following the release of his 2017 debut solo album, “After All These Years”- at the age of 69 - Geoff has firmly established himself as a performer on the folk and acoustic circuit.

His album received four and five-star reviews and wide national radio airplay and he’s toured with the likes of Show of Hands and performed ( or is booked ) for festivals as varied as Shrewsbury, Cornwall, Sidmouth, Sark, Orkney, Whitby, Broadstairs, Dartmoor,  Costa Del Folk (Spain and Portugal) and Chippenham.

He’s been described as “the father of a virtual folk dynasty”, as dad of Seth, Sean and Sam and father-in-law of Cara Dillon and Kathryn Roberts. The boys began playing in a family band with Geoff and their fiddler mum.

Geoff has been acclaimed for his “masterful" playing of the rare Crane duet concertina, his “rich, melodic voice” and “relaxed, amusing stage presence.”

Mike Harding describes his CD as “pure class” and Northern Sky magazine wrote; "Every track oozes charm- for a debut album it is extraordinary.”

After playing Geoff’s “Tie ‘Em Up” on the BBC Radio 2 folk show Mark Radcliffe said “He manages the neat trick of writing a new song that sounds as if it has existed for 100 years.”

Born in Cornwall, Geoff has lived on Dartmoor for 40 years and was a Fleet Street journalist for 50 years before “retiring” and becoming a folk singer.

Expect self-written and West Country songs from Geoff, plus English and Irish folk, Americana like Jimmie Rodgers, the Louvin Brothers, Buddy Miller and Randy Newman and even 20/30’s jazz on an authentic 1926 instrument.

The esteem in which he is held is reflected in the all-star line-up of family and friends who played on his album: Seth, Sean, Sam, Cara, Kathryn, the legend that is Nic Jones, Jim Causley, Sam Kelly and Jamie Francis (The Lost Boys, Changing Room), Ben Nicholls (Seth Lakeman Band, Full English), Gill Redmond ( Folk cellist) and Dan Crimp (MadDog McRea)
