Mark Dowding has been performing folk music since his days at school where he was involved in PTA evenings. From there, he found the local folk club network and established himself as a resident singer at various clubs around the country as he moved with his job.
In the early 1980s, he was a resident at Harry Boardman’s Unicorn Folk Club where he was able to integrate songs of his native Lancashire into his repertoire.
Since those early days, Mark has had regular gigs throughout the years, runs a successful folk club in his home village for the last ten years and has appeared on numerous local radio folk programmes as either a guest or guest presenter.
He has also been called upon with his expert knowledge of the music of Lancashire to appear on TV with Tony Robinson and others illustrating programmes with songs pertinent to the subject of the documentaries.
Over the last ten years or so, Mark has been a regular visitor to folk clubs in Cornwall including Penzance and Bodmin, and Bude Folk Festival whilst on holiday in the area and is delighted to be asked to Penzance as the Guest Musician for this night

Started in early 2008, Penzance Folk Club is run by a small committee with the welcome help from a number of members and performers.
Based at the Bath Inn in Cornwall Terrace, the Club runs alternate Wednesdays from 8.00pm-11.00pm. Click here for our Diary Dates
Most evenings are "round the room" sessions where everyone has the opportunity to sing, play a tune or tell a story. There is no obligation to perform and audiences are especially welcome.
Round the room sessions are Free entry, but we always run a Raffle to raise funds to subsidise our Guest Nights - held about 5 times a year - for which a charge is made.
