Cherry Ghost headlines Liskeard Live
Supported by Golden Fable
Plus All Girl Trio "The Hulas" from North Cornwall
Cherry Ghost are songwriter/vocalist Simon Aldred, Jim Rhodes, Ben Parsons, Grenville Harrop and Phill Anderson and are a powerhouse of pop pedigree.
After a year’s break from touring, the band members are all working on some great musical projects. Simon Aldred has been working on a solo project Out Cold with a forthcoming debut album, Invasion of Love – recorded with Metronomy and NZCA Lines producer: Ash Workman and the keyboard player joining the tour with Miles Kane.
In 2007, Cherry Ghost’s debut album, Thirst for Romance, revealed the potential of what this extraordinary group could do. Their widescreen, wondrous songs, like Mathematics and 4am, had already been showcased on “Later With Jools Holland” months before the album’s release, and then were played heavily on Radio 2 and 6 Music. The record got to No 7 in the album charts, and its lead single People Are The People, won an “Ivor Novello” award for Best Contemporary Song in 2008.
In 2010, Beneath This Burning Shoreline was released and it is the ocean, the water, the terror, the tenderness of life in all its messy, magical splendour. It is thirst for romance in the raw, in the real. It is the sound of Cherry Ghost taking the spirit of their past, and ours, with them, and revealing their beauty in the brilliant present.
Currently recording their second album with Jimmy Robertson (Anna Calvi, Florence + The Machine) and David Wrench (Bat For Lashes, Everything Everything), Welsh two-piece Golden Fable will be supporting Cherry Ghost as well as offering one of their more melancholy tracks, the vocally haunting Crossfire was released on June 3rd.
2012 was a significant and successful year for the band; with UK tours accompanying the likes of Field Music and Wave Machines under their belts as well as a brilliantly received debut album release.
Tim and Rebecca found huge success on radio, with DJs from across the genre-spectrum taking their Four Tet-tinged folktronica into their hearts and onto the airwaves. With repeat plays on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 6music and XFM, as well as on-going support from taste-makers such as Marc Riley, Huw Stephens, Jen Long, Tom Robinson and Guy Garvey, Golden Fable transcend the confines of genre and trend, “evoking a sense of heart-thudding emotion through their spacious production made of twitching beats and synth prods ” - God Is In The TV Zine.
Plus an additional support band, from North Cornwall , - All Girl Trio "The Hulas" Formed in the autumn of 2006 following a storming festival set as their previous incarnation ‘The Barberellas’, The Hulas are an alternative indie-rock three piece from Liskeard.
The Hulas have performed to enthusiastic crowds at top venues in the South West including Exeter Cavern and Falmouth's Princess Pavillions, not to mention shows at classic music venues in London including The Dublin Castle.
