Time: 14:15

Friends of The Guildhall
are proud to present:

'The Last Night of the Blues'

The culmination of the eight-day 2016 St Ives Blues Festival, The Last Night of the Blues is more than a mere night of some of the very best blues around, for the doors open at 1.45pm on Saturday 14th May!

The afternoon begins with Bill Goodyear at 2.15pm, followed by Dave Peabody at 3.30pm, and then Tom Doughty performs from 6.00pm. The event closes with Spikedrivers playing from 8.30pm until 10.45pm.

One of the most original, innovative and exciting bands around, Spikedrivers comprise guitarist Ben Tyzack, bassist Constance Redgrave and percussionist Maurice McElroy. Their music has been described as ‘haunting’, ‘gutsy’, ‘tribal’ and even ‘psychedelic’, and they take you on a journey from southern juke-joints and lazy front porches to the huge open spaces of dust bowls and railroad tracks disappearing into the distance.

From the early blues of Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker and Big Bill Broonzy, they have added their own blend of north African and Native American rhythms, gospel harmonies, sixties blues and rock guitar.

They’ve been compared to The Band, Led Zeppelin, Ry Cooder, JJ Cale, Pentangle, Fleetwood Mac and even Pink Floyd.

With their high energy show, Spikedrivers have been burning up European festival stages.

“For their multitude of admirers, they seem to be growing in stature as a headline band. If you have not seen them you simply must.” Blues in Britain

“…a gift for evocative songwriting” BBC
Radio 2- Paul Jones

Tom Doughty
is a lap steel acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter.
His style is free-flowing and improvisational, drawing from the blues, folk and jazz-swing standards.

He has played at venues all over the United Kingdom and frequently visits the United States.

In December 2003, he was the featured artist on Paul Jones’ blues show on BBC Radio 2 and has been featured on that show several times since, as well as other international radio programmes.

“Doughty…is an enormous talent who provides a fantastic evening’s entertainment.” Blues in Britain

“…we went home totally satisfied having heard top class blues from a first rate practitioner. He is a must see performer.”
Lewis and Harris Folk Northwest

Dave Peabody,
voted Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year in 1995, 2001 and 2002, is a singer-songwriter, blues and folk musician, record producer and photographer.

He has been active since the late 1960s, and has appeared on more than 60 albums. He is primarily known for his acoustic guitar playing, in both bottleneck and fingerpicking styles.

He first recorded in 1971 and has performed with early versions of Savoy Brown and Fleetwood Mac. His first, self-titled, solo album was released in 1973.

In all, he has released nine solo albums. He has also performed and recorded with a wide variety of other blues musicians, notably Charlie Musselwhite and Big Joe Duskin, as well as in a duo with Bob Hall, and has appeared at many blues festivals in the US and in Europe.

“…a mainstay of the UK blues scene since the 1960s” Jazzwise Magazine

Bill Goodyear uses old photos and recordings as well as his own guitar and voice to bind our personal stories to those of the original Delta blues men, weaving a meditation on the relevance of the Blues to our lives today.
