Date: Friday 21st July 2017
The Mandolin Orchestra of Devon
Special Guests :
Sterog - Guitar & Mandolin Duo
St Mary Magdalen Church Choir
The Mandolin is almost a “lost sound” to our modern ears, although in the 1920’s and 1930’s there was a Mandolin Orchestra, of sorts, in most towns and villages throughout the country. Latterly, there has been, “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” with the haunting sounds from the film.
Combining the sounds of The Mandolin Orchestra of Devon ( MOOD ), with the talents of mandolin maestro, Matt Norman, the silky quality of Steve Wherly and Roger Robinson, ( Sterog ) and the wonderful power and precision of St Mary Magdalen Church Choir, this is an evening not to be missed.
This evening is also a first : The first in a series of promotions that LADS are to undertake in the next few years, bringing music and theatre to Launceston using the skills of the Launceston Dramatic Society
Doors & Licensed Bar open from 7.00pm
Show starts at 7.30pm

Standard : £8.00
MOOD is directed by Matt Norman from Wren's team of ace musicians and workshop leaders. Matt is gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of the leading lights of the new generation of Devon-based folk artists.
He is an innovative and entertaining musician, exploring traditional and contemporary English music as a performer, arranger, composer and songwriter. His imaginative approach to repertoire is complemented by his virtuosity on the mandolin. He has developed a unique style on the instrument, using rich textures and dramatic contrasts.
Over the past couple of years Matt has regularly performed at major folk festivals in England and Europe, including the Sidmouth and Baring-Gould Folk Festivals. His CD Eight Days Late ( Wren CD007 ) has been well-received by lovers of acoustic folk music.
