Date: Wednesday 27th June 2018
Time: 19:30

Tim Winton

Award winning novelist Tim Winton has published over twenty books since his first novel, 'An Open Swimmer', won the Australian/Vogel Award in 1981. He has won the Miles Franklin Award four times (for Shallows, Cloudstreet, Dirt Music and Breath) and twice been shortlisted for the Booker Prize (for The Riders and Dirt Music). Active in the environmental movement, he is the Patron of the Australian Marine Conservation Society and a keen surfer. He lives in Western Australia.

He will be discussing his latest book 'Shepherd's Hut' with fellow novelist and Booker nominated, author Wyl Menmuir. In the 'Shepherd's Hut', Jaxie Clackton has dreaded going home. His beloved mum is dead, and he wishes his dad was too, until one terrible moment leaves his life stripped to nothing. No one ever told Jaxie Clackton to be careful what he wishes for.

Fierce and lyrical, The Shepherd's Hut by Tim Winton is a story of survival, solitude and unlikely friendship. Most of all it is about what it takes to keep hope alive in a parched and brutal world.

Expect an evening exploring not only the best in literary conversation but also forages into coastal living, surfing, masculinity and the problems of patriarchy.

Not to be missed.
