'Ladies In Lavender'

Ladies in Lavender is probably better known from the 2004 film that starred Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. This stage play is adapted by Shaun McKenna from the screenplay by Charles Dance, who based his film on a short story by William J. Locke.

It tells the story of two spinster sisters, Ursula and Janet, living in 1936 in a small Cornish village whose life of cocoa before bed and the village jumble sale is transformed when they decide to house an unconscious stranger washed up on the beach near to their home.

The ladies revive him, nurse him and eventually restore him to good health – and their little village lives are transformed. However, they discover that the young man is Polish and a virtuoso violinist, and it starts to become clear that his future does not lie in Cornwall … what will this mean for Ursula and Janet?

The story is moving and heartfelt, with many moments of comedy and perfect for a summer’s evening.
