Wendy Kirkland : 'Piano Divas'
2017 was a breakthrough year for Wendy, when her debut album, Piano Divas, attracted airplay from over 30 worldwide radio stations, plus repeat airplay by Alyn Shipton and Clare Teal on BBC Radio and Helen Mayhew on JazzFM.
A 2018 ACE Lottery funded tour ensued.
Dave Gelly in the Observer awarded the album four stars, and Jazz Journal published a profile of Wendy in March 2019.
Following a second successful application, ACE are funding Wendy’s 2019 tour as well.
Wendy’s second album, The Music’s On Me, will be recorded in rural Lincolnshire at the Steinway B of Spencer Cozens, MD to John Martyn and Joan Armatrading.
Piano and voice will be recorded simultaneously so the tracks retain their live feel. Overdubs and AutoTune will not be employed.
It will feature special guests Roger Beaujolais, vibraphone and Tommaso Starace, saxophone.
“Proper jazz piano, excellent band, a very classy debut” Dave Gelly, The Observer.
“A refreshing tribute to pianists like herself; Diana Krall, Nina Simone, Eliane Elias” Jazzwise.
“One of the great unsung heroines of British Jazz” The JazzMann.
“A bright future…first rate” Jazz Views.
