Truro School Chapel Organ Opening
Truro School's Chapel has just taken delivery of the recently refurbished
1970s Mander Organ from Jesus College, Cambridge.
Following months of refurbishment this stunning neo-classical instrument is now up and running and is about to prove itself to be a real complement to the Cathedral's romantic Father Willis Organ at the bottom of the hill. The 'three manual' and pedals instrument boasts just under 2000 pipes, a brand new mechanical key action and a new fully computerised stop action.
The Mander Organ is an excellent example of the neo-baroque style of organ design which flourished during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Its clear sound is mirrored by the silvery case pipes, and the instrument makes a striking impression on eyes and ears. It also contains some very beautiful string sounds and some very exciting fiery reed stops.
The opening recital will be given by international organ recitalist Thomas Trotter. Alongside his weekly recitals in Birmingham, where he was appointed City Organist in 1983, Thomas Trotter regularly performs throughout the USA and Europe. He is also Organist at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey and visiting Professor of Organ at the Royal College of Music, London.
