Men-An-Tol : Tin Coast Walking Tours -

Men-An-Tol : Tin Coast Walking Tours

Date: Sunday 1st November 2020
Time: 13:00

Tin Coast Walking Tours offer three fun, unique and creative guided circular walks around West Penwith and the Tinners Way, visiting many fascinating and rare Cornish antiquities (each walk approximately 8 kilometres / 5 miles). Musician, Ben Sutcliffe from ‘The People’s String Foundation’ has teamed up with actor/storyteller Mary Woodvine to tell local myths and fables along the way.
Ben and Mary will sing and play Cornish folk music and educate about Cornwall’s rich history, past and present culture and thriving wildlife.

At the heart of The Tinners Way, this circular walk begins at the famous Men-an-Tol holed stone which is between 3500 - 4500 years old.

Heading towards the glorious peaks of Carn Galver we come across the 6ft high Men Scryfa inscribed stone with written Celtic language from the 5th/6thC AD. The journey continues West past beautiful Bronze Age field systems and over the Carn Downs towards the un-excavated ancient Bronze Age settlement of Bosullow Trehyllys.
For the pinnacle of this walk, Ben and Mary will guide you to the magnificent ruins of Chun Castle which protected the tin and copper trade from plunderers from 300BC onwards. Not far from here is Chun Quoit, a beautiful Neolithic ceremonial monument who’s stones have lasted in tact for 5000 years.

The journey back to Men-an-Tol leads along the picturesque track of The Tinners Way.
