Otto Nicolai's 'The Merry Wives Of Windsor'
Duchy Opera's next production is Otto Nicolai’s comic masterpiece The Merry Wives of Windsor.
This wonderful opera has charmed audiences since its premiere in 1849. Based on Shakespeare, its larger-than-life central figure is the absurd Sir John Falstaff, roundly humiliated by the cunning wives of the title.
It abounds in lyrical melodies (which you will probably recognise) and in fairy magic not so far from A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Since its debut production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro in 1977, Duchy Opera has built a reputation as one of the finest semi-professional, regional opera companies in the UK.
As well as their main opera productions, they perform in concert at venues all over Cornwall, from village halls to country houses, and make occasional journeys further afield, such as their trip to Cyprus in 2010, to perform in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund.
Educational work is central to the company’s activities, and ranges from regular Masterclasses with Internationally-recognised vocal coaches and singers, to their popular Primary School workshop visits with the Duchy Opera School Run.
