'The Gondoliers'
Two Venetian gondolieri – but one is a King, promised in marriage when a child to Casilda, the baby daughter of a Spanish Duke and Duchess. Now Casilda is coming of age her parents are keen to find the King!
Trouble is, due to an insurrection in his country, the baby Prince was smuggled away and taken to Venice to be brought up in a gondoliers family.
But, with their own son of similar age, the family can no longer remember which boy is the long-lost Monarch and which the humble gondolier!
Which of the ‘brothers’ is of royal descent?
Who will become a right-down, regular royal Queen?
Following last year’s sell-out comic opera The Elixir of Love, Duchy Opera invite you to join them on a delightfully entertaining voyage of discovery.
Navigating the revelations and complications of the Gondolieri having Brides-to-Be of their own and Casilda’s secret lover, the plot unfolds to an unexpected ending!
Packed with well-known and much-loved songs including Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes, Dance a Cachucha and When a Merry Maiden Marries this popular and witty G&S is a must-see evening of fun for the whole family, whether aficionado or newcomer.

'The Gondoliers'
Since its debut production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro in 1977, Duchy Opera has built a reputation as one of the finest semi-professional, regional opera companies in the UK.
As well as their main opera productions, they perform in concert at venues all over Cornwall, from village halls to country houses, and make occasional journeys further afield, such as their trip to Cyprus in 2010, to perform in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund.
Educational work is central to the company’s activities, and ranges from regular Masterclasses with Internationally-recognised vocal coaches and singers, to their popular Primary School workshop visits with the Duchy Opera School Run.
